One of the more famous, or infamous, if you are a student with an assignment to read the Iliad for the first time, is the love spell of Aphrodite. Paris gave Aphrodite the Golden Apple that was the prize for the most beautiful Goddess. Aphrodite spelled Helen, as the most beautiful mortal, into loving Paris. The result was the Trojan war, because Helen was already married. . . Though the marriage was arranged, not one of love.
