To be a rationalist is to adopt at least one of three claims. The Intuition/Deduction thesis concerns how we become warranted in believing propositions in a particular subject area.

1 The Intuition/Deduction Thesis: Some propositions in a particular subject area, S, are knowable by us by intuition alone; still others are knowable by being deduced from intuited propositions.

2 The second thesis associated with rationalism is the Innate Knowledge thesis.

The Innate Knowledge Thesis: We have knowledge of some truths in a particular subject area, S, as part of our rational nature.

3 The third important thesis of rationalism is the Innate Concept thesis.

The Innate Concept Thesis: We have some of the concepts we employ in a particular subject area, S, as part of our rational nature.

The basis of Knowledge is reason because, if Human beings would not have started questioning things happening around 'em....if they would not have started thinking that what can be the reason behind an apple falling down from a tree???...why water falls off when from a filled bath-tub???...why the cover of the Tea-pot dances up and down when the water is boiling???

They would have never been able to understand, the facts behind these things.Such useful n great information would never come to light!!!There would be no Newton, no Archimedes...n no Einstein in this World!!!

These people , on the basis of their reasoning power, brought a Revolution in Science!!

Just why are they called 'rationalists'? For the rationalists, reason is the only source of knowledge and nothing else. Descartes, kant etc. They also believe in the omnipotence of reason, and then, it is automatic for them to proclaim, "All that are not rational are not real".
if possible, read some indian Epistemology before writing out your paper, and some criticisms of rationalism.

Knowledge is the ability to discern between pieces of information. Rationalists must figure that to consider/reason ideas is to be knowledgible.
