The answer depends on mixture of religion, culture, politics of where you live.

It usually is not considered suicide if you have a dangerous job, where it is expected that you will come home alive each day, but the death rate is higher in that profession than in others ... such as a fire fighter, police officer, in the military.

Even if you go on a mission where your life has high probability of being lost, it is not considered suicide, because of the importance of the mission.

When viewed by people of a different religion, culture, politics, sometimes the mission is not seen to be important, so suicide bombers are sometimes labeled homocide bombers.

Suicide is generally considered to be a matter of choice. If you end up in the military by force, such as a draft, or in the case of child soldiers, then you get sent into a dangerous conflict and killed, that was not suicide, because there was no free will in getting into the danger.

First I have to say that if you have to ask you must know this answer deep down in your own heart.Every suicide is for a cause, some causes more selfish than others, it's easier to take your own life but living life benefits everyone, if you really want to make a difference stick around and help make the changes. Be a leader not a follower ( most of them may have followed the cause to an early grave) People love you don't leave them just for the sake of a cause. If you die for a cause your voice can never be heard again. FIGHT Fight Fight to make it right. Good luck, not goodbye

Every Day, Soldiers die for a cause. They are not commiting Suicide. Every Day, People put their lives on the line for a loved one, and sacrifice their life to save a loved one.
This is not Suicide. The greatest gift we have to give to another is LOVE. This is Love.
Do not mix self death with sacrificing your very existence for a loved one

In my understanding when a person dies for a cause it is called a sacrifice, whereas when a person commits suicide he is not able to face the problem and he is in a negative and desperate mood. But again there is a problem when a person commits suicide for a cause who will decide whether that cause is worthy or not!

Yes, when you take your own life it is suicide, period. There is no cause great enough to be that extreme. What good does it do? You wont be around to see the final results of your actions. It would just be an action-getting deed that most people would say "what a shame,he must have been nuts". And then it is forgotten by everyone except your family and friends. In other words, no one else would give a s**t.

wow wow, first of all my younger sister just recently committed suicide and please be careful when you judge them,,, but i think the question your asking is if you die for a cause like i know for a fact i would die for my kids anytime without question but for a cause i cant think of a cause worth my life, it does say in the bible "there's no greater gift then to lay down your life for another" im not sure where or when this would apply, im sure it does in the military, GOD bless those people, there the only ones who can probably answer this literally

Yes it is.Why die when you know very well that what you are fighting for is unending?I have not known anyone who succeeded in his intentions except Jesus Christ who died on the cross, and was not a case of suicide.

Many people throughout time have died for some or another cause.
It is how history deals with the death where it matters to you as the one left behind. Martyr? Fool? Hero?
Who writes OUR history books? Is there a propaganda version and a real version tucked away hidden somewhere?
Maybe only God knows the answer to your question.
