You win first prize !!! See, the liberals never think that far ahead . Next step is the obvious one-RAISE INCOME TAXES.
On top of that, the money already distributed to the states has been spent BY THE STATES for art programs, road repair, etc.

the Government wants to tax tobacco, and at the same time it wants people to quit smoking,.....as the prices rise for cigarettes, the result will be more people who will not smoke, or people will buy cigarettes on the black market, thus not paying the taxes,.....the health programs will grow, just as every other program the Govt. has does,.....and the government will have to find other ways to keep the programs going,.....like tax fast food, bottled water, soft drinks, more gas taxes, no matter what the tax, in the long run every one will pay for it in some way,.....because you know,.....large corporations do not pay taxes, only consumers of their product do,.....

Some may say it is a result of the short-sightedness of liberals. I think this is all part of their plan. The initial plan is just to get the health bill passed. Using cigarette taxes is a way to get more people to be in favor of it. Once they get it passed, they don't care if the money runs out. They have the bill in place so when the money runs out they just come up with another temporary tax, probably taxing something like alcohol or caffeine, or whatever else they decide is potentially harmful in their mind. Their main goal here is to get the health bill passed.

You'll have to forgive the politicians, they have a very hard time seeing past their nose and wallet. They know that people will never quit smoking so the stick it to them. What would they do if we smokers started growing our own tobacco and making our own cigarettes? It's what I plan to do. I say stick it to the government as much as you can within the limits of the law.

There will always be something to tax. Alcohol would be next. Why not legalize pot, and use its taxes to pay for health care. You'd be killing two birds with one stone. Health care for kids, and more non-violent, victimless criminals in the workforce instead of wasting tax payer dollars on jail cells.

They will just increase a tax on somehting else.
My thought is caffeine is going to be the next back they will try to break after tobacco, as they wont mess with alcohol too much. That led to too many problems.

They know that could never happen. They're safe. Even if they raised the price of one pack of cigarettes to one hundred dollars, people would still smoke.

Its not right for the government to mandate charity. However if they want to tax vice, im all for it. But the money should go to something good like military retirement packages or military modernization.
