is it true that you cant use ordianry soap for your face like (ivory soap)? they say that you really have to use FACIAL WASH (ponds facial wash, dove facial foam etc) to cleanse your face because it wont irritate your face?is it just a form of advertising? i mean.. many years ago was there ever Facial Wash? like before christ or AC.?hehe so does it mean that if facial wash wasnt invented then people would get bad skin because you have to rely on it forever? cant we just use ordinary soaps? even baby soaps? i remember the best skin i had was when i was using (IVORY SOAP) i was 13 im 19 now. my skin was soooo soft & smooth before. then i got fooled by advertisements..so i kinda have acne now.im not against facial wash or anythin i just wanna get people's opinion about it.thanks alot.

To add to the above comments. Before AC (Christ), very few people lived past the age of 35. So skincare was not on the top of the list. By the time you were 30 you looked like you were 70. The times were much harder on people and it took it's toll on them.

BTW. The soaps back then were all natural and did not have the harsh detergents that are common in regular bar soaps.

Before facial washes many women used "cold creams" like Ponds and Noxema to wash their face. I knew a woman in her 80's who had only used water to wash her face. At 19, you can get away with using regular soap on your face. I did at 19. I'm 40 now, and my skins changed a lot. I use Clean & Clear cleansing cream because older skin needs something more emolient rich.

Personally i wouldn't use regular soap. Everyone says it doesn't do a good job. For me Clearasil works. Every time I get a pimple it goes away with Clearasil. I would use special cleansing soap. That works the best. I guess as you get older your skin changes and so do your needs. Try whatever works for you. My friend has acne and he uses perscription medicine.

Hope I helped

before, i used ordinary soap for my face. it didn't actually harm my face but there's just a better effect when it comes to a facial wash. there are some facial wash that may or may not harm your skin so you just have to choose the best one. i suggest use st. ives! it's a medicated facial wash, it's not just for cleaning the face but it also heals pimples.

i think most ordinary soap does tend to dry out your skin. i think Ivory or baby soap , if you wash your face really good, don't rub too hard, but pat your skin dry. maybe use facial cream occasionally. but mostly common sense. i think you are right.

well...you were 13 (most people had great skin at 13) but the thing about bar soap is that it has harsher detergents in it then facial soap...because its made for cleaning different types of skin that collect more dirt and sweat then the face...i mean just touch the skin around your eye, and then the skin on your cheek, then the skin on your arm (leg, chest etc) it all feels different...the skin on the face is more delicate and can't take the drying effect of the detergents in body soap...not for long without it showing....sure people in previous generations didn't have access to the "anti-oxidant, moisturizing, cucumber extract, pore-refining blah blah blah" that we do...and to bad for them...because ours is one of the first generations that is lucky enough to fight aging and bad skin before the effect set in ... science has lent itself to our vanity.....we know more now so hopefully I won't need botox and face lifts like most 40 somethings out there...I'm not denying aging ...its inevitable... but take care of your skin now...treat it nice with moisturizer and gentle cleansing products and you'll thank yourself later...as for the acne...you'll grow out of it...just spot treat with sylic acid and use natural cosmetics to cover up
