WHY bother with DDR 400 When DDR2 667 is very cheap these days?


And it also depends some mobos support DDR and DDR2 but not at the same time and if the mobo only supports DDR2 you might fry it. Since they run on different voltages.

Absolutely not. It might be possible to under clock, but I doubt it. Memory will run at slower speeds, but not faster than rated.
