Back in the early 80's there was a daytime TV program that was on that showed a news team covering an atomic explosion in the U.S. It looked so real that when some of my co-workers got me to a TV, I believed it for about 10 minutes. They had a good laugh.

On 9/11 when I saw the first videos at work, for the first couple of minutes I thought it was just a TV program.

Boy was I wrong.

That I was glad I wasn't in those towers (although I was at the corner of Pennsylvania and Independence in DC, when the second plane hit, I promptly headed South East on PA Ave. to get out of the area and told the people in my office to go home and not head down town), and yes, I thought a war had begun but that was my second thought).

As a New Yorker, my first though was "Is my sister alright"
It would be four days before we knew she was.
Since I had walked that building, and those streets many times, I kept thinking it was another horror movie.
Maybe because I knew the locale, knew people in the area, grew up in a time when the erection of the buildings and the discussion of the plans was made public, but my first thoughts didn't go to war, it went to the safety of my family and friends.
Then I waited for the President to tell us what happened. And I waited, he was in the air, Cheney..God knows where.
One thing I knew for sure, Bill would have be on the air from Air Force One, reassuring the people, you couldn't keep him from a camera, even in the air, but where were the reassuring words from the President? I think that was the beginning of my dislike of the way Bush did his job.

I think I was in shock at first. I saw the second plane hit the building on live T.V., and I thought, "Is this for real?" When I realized it was for real, all I remember thinking was how horrible the whole situation was. I called my parents to see if my dad had the T.V. on and saw it, then I just watched the news reports for a long time.

First I felt shocked and saddened for the people who died.
Then I realized that nothing would ever be the same after that day.

I knew it.
As a Flight Attendant I studied the Swissair111 crash late 1998. Clinton babbled on the golf course to a local station about 9 specific threats to widebody aircraft in the Pacific Rim. My Dad was in Spain flying hope cross country on United. I warned them and he thought I went bi-polar. Seriously he took me to 3 doctor's for mental health after.
Did I get an apology on September 11, 2001? I'm still waiting. Yet back then he proudly declared "nothing will ever happen on an airplane." I told you so was my first thought. Thank you.
PS. His will was changed after by the step witch as I was benefactor of a Million dollar policy should he die in a plane crash. She sure took swift care of that. The Doctor's told my Dad he was nuts, not me!

When the first one hit I thought it was just a terrible accident.

After the second, it was pretty obvious that it was intentional.
