There are so many things wrong with American society today, especially with the people, that it's getting annoying just to live here. Sure, you can ignore it, but I've witnessed the following and I witness it daily: major road rage, careless behavior and drug/alcohol/cigarette use, attitude and out to get you mentallities, being bad/fierce is better than being good, on-the-go hectic lifestyles, fights and discrimimnation, overpopulation, pollution, crime, no regard for human life by other people AND by corporations, so you're basically left with no regard for human life at ALL, except by people who care about you.
Kids today are basically the worst.
Yes, good and great people exist despite all this, so if you don't call under these categories, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me your majesties.
But I'm targeting the ills of society, not you. Don't get offended. :-) thank you, tee hee, ree.
im just being purposefully silly b/c so many people take things personally. :-/

Anyways getting back to the point, I just find it HARD not to develop a cynical, bitter, smart *** attitude myself, becuase society kind of pushes you there. Even if you're strong and mature, you get sick of the ****, and want to retaliate, b/c it gets too much.
Society is weird, and we're reached a time where there's absolutely NO point in living, except for enduring all the **** you have to go through in life.

I think that todays society perpetuates a selfish attitude that is at the root of this. There is so much competition and the focus is on materialistic pursuits. With most individuals being autonomous in today's culture, they have a job, they have their home, their own vehicle, etc, it shifts the focus from a 'we' mentality to a 'me' mentality. This is opposed to our ancestrol heritage of working and living in communities where each person contributed to the whole, to the success and to the livliehood of the 'tribe' or community. In this model each individual was respected and appreciated and esteemed by what they did for others, how they contributed. This sense of being a team has all but dissappeared in todays modern world, but I have experienced greater examples of it in different parts of the country.
For example, when I lived in Alaska for 10 years, I found the people to be more neighborly and more committed to helping others. I surmised that this was in large part because the winter's there are very harsh and difficult. No man can be an island in Alaska. It is always apparent that you NEED others to dilute the harshness of trying to survive in such a fierce climate. People are kinder there. It is nothing for someone to call into work and be an hour late getting to their job because they stopped to help their neighbor dig out of 3 feet of snow in his driveway. Any time I would venture to the store, I would call my neighbor and ask them if they needed anything while I was out. I mean, why not save them from having to go to the store since you are going to be out anyway?
It is kind of like the rule of the high seas and that is that you must respond to someone in distress if it is at all possible for you to assist that person. You do this becuase you recongnize your own vulnerabilities and the fact that you may need to call on someone else to help you out some day.
Folks have lost that sense of assisting others because we have become too self focused, too assure of our ability to manage our own lives and provide for ourself. It perpetuates an attitude of 'Who the heck needs you?" This is a dangerous mentality and it seperates us from others. You can't value someone else if you see them as "THEM", in opposition to yourself. Sadly,we have forgotten how much we need one another. We have forgotten our oneness! It would help if we could all recall that we our "humanity" and this planet is a huge community. We need each other. We need to remember that...
Just my humble opinion.

I agree. Look at tv. Flavor Flav,Rock of Love, The Real World. It all sends people messages to go and be hoish ans rude to get what they want. Also music listen to some rap. All it does it regards women as trash. Also magazines showing perfect people that are airbrushed...and how about the old says boys will be boys, and if a women has sex she is a whore, but a men can go have sex with 100 girls and be called a pimp. Also the internet. It is just normal nowadays to go on a chat and talk sex. That is basically what most people do on there and try to get people on webcam to show thier bodies. All these things are disgusting, and it is what effects us as a society negatively.

Luke, This is one of the most important questions of modern
day! I ask this myself, in a nut shell: Drugs! is one of the
primary factors in the violence, lact of parental attention
and guidance, also! how can parents of delinquent children
guide? when they themselves were'nt taught what is required
for life then and now, children live what they learn! The
culture of drinking is another reason for disorderly conduct
in society! and this substance damages the brain to where
it is impossible to reason after awhile, Love! in the Home is
another deficiency and that's the greatest of all, it's the only
attention that molds us all into the persons we become now!
or then ! in other words "Love is the greatest"! of all Therapies! but it has to start in the home from the day we
are born to this world, only then! can anyone give love to
others. Killing is not love! other forms of crimes to hurt others
is not love. The answer lies in upbringing and family values.
Of course there is the isolated case where a person
chooses his or her own path in life but! majority! lies in what
we are molded on. Money cannot buy those values it can
buy the necessities to destroy, and most of all it can't buy
Love.

You would feel a lot better if you stopped sucking in the media poison that makes them so much money, and everyone else frightened and insecure.
Good news doesn't sell, but it doesn't mean it does not exist. Chill out or check out - thems' your choices.

Why don't you just commit suicide?
Wouldn't that solve all your problems.
Or even better, go on a rampage and "cleanse" the country of all these people you hate. A sort of self proclaimed angel of death.
Would be more productive than suicide.
