The current state of world politics seems to be quite tense, and it also seems many countries have entered a new arms race. Do you think these tensions could escalate into the next world war, and if so do you think it’s getting close? or is it more so a bit of muscle flexing?

It's already started, the U.S. is in a proxy war with Iran (right now that is what Iraq is really about). But this won't be a traditional "world war" since most of the counties with nukes are rational actors and don't want to get to that point (which is where a world war would lead).

Since the US led the invasion of Iraq against the UN's advice we have been in a world war. It is just a question of when it will escalate.

No. understand that this could nicely be a topic depend this is in many cases explored in technology Fiction Literature. Many have faith that the top results of such may be "Mutual certain Destruction" being that the U. S. even with being the worlds sole superpower, isn't the only u . s . with available Nuclear armament to apply in the form of conflict. this implies that the finished international may be destroyed, no longer in straightforward terms one u . s . or yet another.
