by the younger generations have to do with dating, homework they were too lazy to do themselves, video games, TV shows or fashion, etc? Rather than the wonderment of traveling, learning or seeing the country and the world?
I feel like the world is passing these children by, what with their non-ability to question their own existence as well as the world around them?

Frankly I agree with you. Although yes, I was into dating, and fashion and music when much younger, I and my friends also discussed the larger world and issues....yes, over jazz listening or at the bowling alley or when the 'girls' got together at 'hen' parties, but we were INVOLVED.

I read an article on a study that was done not long ago where it said that today's older youth are very results/money/status' oriented and nothing else much matters to them and that they have somewhat of a doomsday outlook on their existence and only are concerned about 'having it all' as long as they can.

Now of course, we all know young people who are not like this whatsoever, but it does seem a much too large group does embrace that shallow outlook

Yes. I go to the sites and just think, what will their tomorrows be like? And I think asking question about homework is just darn lazy. They are pretty mixed up and that is terribly worrying. They are the leaders of tomorrow. How will they cope? Also, the sad thing, is that so many of them do not even know what sex they should choose, regardless of their own sex. It never crossed my mind when I was a teenager to go out with anyone of the same sex. Yet there is an obsession with it. This young generation is going to face some very bad issues, politically, and yet only a handful of them seem to realise it. A lot too, are just happy that they do drugs and have no idea what they are doing to themselves. Then there are the gangs, and they play for real. And it is on the increase. Kids, old people and innocent people are getting killed, robbed. I saw a Doco. on gangs in New Zealand, of all places. And the Police and authorities are very worried about it. these kids were showing off with daggers, knives and bragging how they can get into a car to rob it. It is a sad and frightening situation.

Yes and no. So many children/kids are on their own because both parents are working like crazy to make ends meet just to be able to buy stuff at Walmart, and I could have used help in school work, growing up in a very small town you were at the merch of the adults around you and the fictional tv shows. I think this is a great forum because not everyone had the opportunities/ or have and it's a chance to see and experience what other people are thinking about topics. Let's fact it, when and where else are people living in a small town with nothing more than a KMart and probably a lot of cows able to communicate about something they are interested in with someone from a major metropolitan city from anywhere in the world? I see it as opening up a whole new world.

Well... I've asked about TV shows and video-games (though those questions were for my boyfriend), but I'm definitely not immature. I mean, sure, I CAN be sometimes, but can't everyone? And, trust me, I am NOT defending teenagers. If anyone thinks teenagers are idiots, it's me. But out of all of my contacts, and most are "adults", I've seen probably 2 ask serious questions. Like I said, I'm not defending today's teenagers.

To me, I think the biggest problem with the teenagers today is that they're in too much of a hurry to grow up, so they act all mature (or try to). They're having sex at 15 and 14 (two of my friends did this), they don't listen to people older than them, they're drinking and doing drugs. Basically, their focus is not on the important things: doing good in school to ensure a future and enjoying just being young while they are.

Indeed, it is a tragic thing. I agree, our children today seem to spend more time on their own than with others too. Computers and TV have been made to be babysitters, in some cases as well. This has led to many children losing the "wonders" of childhood, in which we knew!

We wanted to play outside and play hide'n'seek and such. Red Rover and croquet! I do not see these children enjoying any form of fun which involves physical activity, imagination nor, creativity....on their own!

The world is "passing" them by because the computers and TV's have taken the place of childhood wonderment. I think in some cases...this is all they know...a very unrealistic, computerized world!

I think... that teenagers are in a stage of growing up. When I was that age I didn't sit around thinking of intellectual things like seeing the world. At my present age I'd like to go to some of the places I've heard about or friends have visited.

I am still interested in fashion and television and you will occasionally find me on one of those sites.

When I was 15 all I wanted to do was fit in. Teenagers will start to find their own identities at different ages. I think I was at least 30 before I didn't feel like a kid anymore and got serious about figuring out who I was. Rather than what everyone tried to make me into, and not what I thought I should act like around each group of peers and family.

They are in a stage of growing up. Most of them will turn out just fine, but the time they are 60. Just like me and you!

I guess that is where they are living for the moment. They are full of insecurities at that age, and by asking these types of questions they get can a feel for how well they are accepted among their peers. I remember being very insecure, with a low self-image. I think they will be okay in the future. As for the homework, I agree with you.

They have social problems from being isolated in front of the computer asking pointless questions. They are so lazy that they can't find the book that their grandma's bought them to learn from. And their fashion... the only way to go is black and white disco clothes. lol

And were we so really different back when we were their age?
The world passed us by for a time too but when we got older we have tried to make up for it.
Our own folks were the same way as were others before them.
Just that today's kids have more fun toys then we had.
Our parents changed the world as we have done to ours. The kids of today will make it if given a fair chance.
