I am in NY and would like to get rid of my oil tank. Who would I call to take care of it; I don't want to do it myself.

If it's in ground.... that's expensive. If it's in the basement it depends on he size. it maybe too big to take out whole. Someone may need, to take it apart. Or cut it up, or take out a basement window, to get it out. So good luck.

Unfortunately this is very labor intensive and may not be worth the effort. The tank will have to be cut into small enough pieces to be removed out the basement windows or door. If it's not in a critical space that you really need, I would learn to love it!
If you do want to do it yourself, first make sure it is completly empty and ventilated. When it is empty, pour some kitty litter in it to absorb whatever is left in there. Make sure you have protective equipment for your feet, eyes and ears. You will need a sawzall preferrably. Measure the tank and whatever door or window you will use to take it out. Make as few cuts as possible. It will be very loud and very dirty and it's hard work. If you do it though, you will be satisfied to have that space!
Good luck w/ whatever you decide and be careful..

I saw it once on a home repair tv show. They removed a few huge bolts and then beat on it with a sledge hammer until it started coming apart. Then, they removed a half at a time.
