Molality = number of moles of a given per kilogram of SOLVENT (not solution) as opposed to:

Molarity = number of moles of a given substance per litre of solution.

The determination of molality ONLY requires a good balance.

molality is the ratio of moles of solute to the killograms of solvent
molality = moles of solute/ kg of solvent
for example a solution prepared with 1.34 moles of NaNO3 and 2.50kg of water the molality is 1.34 mols/ 2.50kg= 0.540m
