Tracking ovulation through fertility awareness procedures is the best way to identify the appropriate time to get pregnant. However, ovulation kits and fertility monitors help further determine your expected ovulation by picking up the luteinizing hormone (LH).

What is the luteinizing hormone (LH)?
The luteinizing hormone is always present in your urine and increases 24-48 hours prior to ovulation. The LH surge triggers ovulation, which is the release of an egg from one of your ovaries. Ovulation is the most fertile time of your cycle.

When is the best time to perform an ovulation test?
The first step is to use the fertility awareness process to determine the best day to start testing based on your monthly cycle. Most ovulation tests may be used at any time of the day; some suggest first morning urine, but it is not required. For greater success, test about the same time each day and reduce your liquid intake for four hours beforehand.

Fertility monitors allow you to identify and track your ovulation month to month. Some people find fertility monitors to be more convenient and easier than tracking body temperature and cervical mucus. Others like to use fertility monitors and fertility awareness techniques for further confidence.

Here is a sample of how the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor works.

How accurate are ovulation tests?
Ovulation tests are approximately 99% accurate in detecting the LH surge. Order Ovulation Kit or Monitor

What should I do if I have used all the tests and I do not see a surge?
If you have not ovulated during your testing days, you will not have detected the LH surge. It is probable that ovulation has not occurred. Unfortunately, the best thing to do is additional testing with another ovulation testing kit and watch for ovulation.

What do I need to do if I have been monitoring my ovulation for several months and pregnancy has not occurred?
First, it is important to remember that it can take normal, healthy couples twelve months to become pregnant. There are many factors which affect your ability to become pregnant even if you have been able to have intercourse during your most fertile time. If after several months you are having no success, consult your physician. Since you have been monitoring your LH surge with an ovulation test, you will be able to give your doctor a clear picture of how you have been ovulating.

When is the best time to have intercourse?
The three days immediately after a positive test represent the best time to have intercourse and increase the probability of getting pregnant. The first or second day will account for the day prior to ovulation and the third day should be the day of ovulation.

What conditions, drugs or medications affect the test?
The following conditions may create an inaccurate result in the tests:

If you are pregnant
If you have recently been pregnant
If you have reached menopause
Some prescription drugs such as menotropins for injection (Pergonal®) and danazol (Danocrine®), may affect the result. If you are undergoing therapy with Clomiphene citrate (e.g. Clomid® or Serophene®), please consult with your physician for the appropriate time to begin testing. Usually you should start testing 3 days after taking the last tablet.

Do hormonal contraceptives affect the results?
It is important to consult with your physician about the best time to get pregnant once you have stopped using contraceptive methods. After using hormonal contraceptives, you may experience an irregular cycle. Ideally, you will wait until your cycle stabilizes, which also makes it easier to monitor your ovulation. You may wish to wait until you have had two normal periods before starting to use an ovulation kit.

Is it okay to use ovulation tests or fertility monitors as a means of contraception?
It is not recommended to use ovulation tests or fertility monitors as a means of tracking your ovulation in order to avoid pregnancy. Ovulation tests only identify the LH surge up to 24 to 48 hours before ovulation, and sperm can survive in the body up to 3 to 5 days. Therefore, if you have intercourse before you discover your surge, the egg could still be fertilized.

How quickly can I determine if I am pregnant?
The best time to test for pregnancy occurs at the expected date

On what day of my cycle should I start testing?

OK. Firstly you need to have sex every other day if possible (every day would be better but I suppose it just depends on how fit your man is!!)
Sperm can live quite happily for 48 hours you see.
Try to have sex in an evening, and place a pillow under your hips before you go to sleep, as this allows the sperm to sink in. Eat a healthy diet, quit the drinking and the smoking (or reduce it) and they are the basic facts!
I would try that this month. It is quite an unusual cycle (25 days) so I'm not sure when your most fertile point this month would be, so your best bet would be to buy an ovulation predictor kit (very cheap on ebay) and a temprature stick and chart. With this, from day one of your cycle (the day your period starts) you place the thermometer in your mouth and note down your basal body temperature. You should do this firstthing in the morning before you have started talking, walking or having sex! Your temperature should stay the same throughout your cycle, apart from on your most fertile time. Whe you are ovulating, you body temperature should go up slightly. At this point you check with your ovulation kit and that is when you should have sex to conceive! As often as possible and for a day days before and after. And remember to use the pillow under your hips.
Also, don't make sex a chore just to conceive, spice it up a bit, this makes it more fun and tests also show that a woman is more likely to get pregnant if she is horny!
Whilst having sex, woman on top is not a good idea as the sperm can leak out, its better if the man goes on top or enters her from behind, that way the sperm has a real chance of reaching that egg! It also helps if your orgasm together, but that is not always possible.
I hope I have been of some help.
Good luck with your future pregnancy!
Oh and see a doctor - they help a great deal and explain all this to you in detail)

My cycle is 26 days that means I should ovulate around the 13th day of my cycle. Since yours is 25 I would say that you ovulate around the 12 13 day for your cycle. To be safe you should have sex from day 9 to day 16. I hope this helps, also there is a good website that you can put in your start days for your period and the length of your cycle and it will give you dates that you are most fertile on.

Yes, with all three of my kids. Just have sex 14 days after the first day you start your period. About 11 or 12 if you want a girl. A girl may take a couple of months to try for. It's harder to get pregnant with a girl. I have two boys and pregnant with baby #3. Hoping for a girl!

no its not the same day for that short of a cycle. For you its porbably like day 12 or 10. But IT IS DIFFERENT WITH EACH WOMAN, without testing to know exactly when you ovulate theres no real way to guess.

Theres no reason why you should try to make it happen. You already know you're body can make babies, and theres not reason to sudden stress out and MAKE it happen.

If your husband is on leave or something and you wont see him again for a while, thats understandable. But still, just have sex, and dont sweat the small stuff. You plant a garden, you dont MAKE it grow.

Umm..your cycle is every 25 days...yea and well are you sure your spouse is wanting this child? You sure you guys can handle it and also support the child instead of seriously just having one because you want one?My boyfriend and I want a child really badly, and right now isn't the time for us,we wouldn't be able to support us,considering the child-care would take our child. We would be heart broken. You sure you got the right things to take care of an infant? What about your parents? How do they feel about this?More importantly did you talk to your spouse about this?Or are you doing this to keep your spouse most women are like this, because they are afraid of losing their men, because maybe afraid of finding no one else to take that person's place. Please consider these questions before jumping and you might be starting soon, your pressuring yourself so of course your not going to start your cycle if you continue to pressure, your also going to think you got the evidence of maybe being prego, but in reality you are not prego.Take it from me,I would know from experience. Please be careful,if I were you look after your self, and your spouses relationship as well as the child's well-fare,before jumping to wanting a baby, because you may not be able to handle the pressure of a child.
P.S If you are good luck sweet heart, and let god be with you.

You might try tracking your BBT (basal body temperature) to determine the pattern of when you are most likely to ovulate. Good luck!
