Try just playing catch a bit with a friend. Tell him to start off throwing a bit light, then gradually, as you build up the confidence, start to put a little zip on the ball.

Also, try having an experienced coach pitch to you, or have a pitching machine throw. That way, you will have nothing to be afraid of and can just worry about using your talents to whack that baseball.

I don't blame you for being a little shaken up after getting hit by a baseball. They are hard and can be dangerous. But you can avoid getting hit by always being aware of where the baseballs are on the field and making sure that you watch out for ones that come toward you.

Anyway, give baseball a try. It's a great game and you will love it! Good luck!

I was hit in the knee bad when i was 8 or 9. It knocked my knee cap out of place. Over the years I watched my batting avg. drop more and more because I was shying away from the ball. Start with the batting cages, where you know you won't get hit, build up confidence there and then move on to a friend or coach pitching to you. This will add the randomness of location to your at-bats. You should have the mind set that your pitcher isn't trying to hit you and that they won't on purpose. Just take a deep breath and relax. When you're ready apply the confidence that you have built up in a real game situation, when you step into the batters box, don't expect anything, not a strikeout or hit or whatever. Slow your breathing and calm your nerves and you will see improvement. I watched my avg. soar close to .500 the last 2 years i played.

I had the same thing happen in High School. Not sure what cured me, other than graduation, but actually started to hit in my 20s and got pretty good until heart attacks slowed me down again.

My suggestion is hang in there, get used to the ball whizzing by you, then get used to swing at that ball.

Go to a batting cage where you know you will not be hit with the ball, that should help you get your confidence back. You might actually find that you have some talent.
