Oceans are the largest uninterrupted expanses of water. Seas are smaller lobes of the ocean that are partly surrounded by land.

A Sea is generally considered to be smaller than an Ocean.
You can cross the Sea by using an "ordinary boat"; on the other hand, for crossing an Ocean, you need to have a "Huge Ship (large boat) ", because mostly during winter, Marines encounter huge ice bergs in the middle of the Ocean.
Ocean is a great body of interconnecting salt water that covers 71% of the earth's surface.
There are four major oceans— namely Arctic Ocean (close to the Northpole), Antartic Ocean (The bottom Ocean of the globe, Atlantic Ocean (The east side Ocean of the U.S.), Indian Ocean (Ocean which is south of India, and the Pacific Ocean which is the largest of all the Oceans (between the Philippine territory and the American territory) Anyhow, some sources do not include the Arctic Ocean, calling it a marginal sea. The term "sea" is often assigned to saltwater areas on the margins of Oceans, such as the Mediterranean Sea particular place beside the Atlantic Ocean.

alright....k.

A sea is smaller than an ocean. It usually connects to an ocean by a strait. The strait usually has a land mass like a peninsula. The Mediterranean Sea connects to the Atlantic Ocean through the Straight of Gibraltar. The Black Sea connects to The Mediterranean through the Dardanelles Strait. Not all seas connect to the ocean. There are some exceptions like the Dead Sea, and the Caspian Sea.

Usually, it depends on the deepness of the water. An ocean is usually deeper that 1000 feet.
But a sea is usually 500 feet deep at the most. Sometimes when they name a body of water a sea like the dead sea and the persian sea, it's really supposed to be a lake. If u wanna know more, just email me at badluck013@yahoo.com.

In the evolution of human exploration and geography, human civilizations named water bodies close to the coastlines as seas. The seas were normally loosely named after nearby geographical areas. No one actually defined the area. Thus the western coastline of India, southern coastline of Arabia, Pakistan Iran etc was named the 'Arab Saagar' or Arabian Sea. Although the arabian sea extends to the east of Africa, people on the east african coastline called it the red sea, although its the same water body.

However after the complete & scientific geographical mapping of the earth, it became evident that 71% of the earth was just one huge water body. Whatever areas of the water bodies that were left unnamed were vast water bodies became oceans.
