This from the same man who calls suicide bombers, "Freedom Fighters"....

"There is a legal definition of genocide and Darfur does not meet that legal standard. The atrocities were horrible but I don't think it qualifies to be called genocide," he said. Washington is almost alone in branding the 4 1/2 years of violence in Darfur genocide. Khartoum rejects the term, European governments are reluctant to use it and a U.N.-appointed commission of inquiry found no genocide, but that some individuals may have acted with genocidal intent. Carter, whose charitable foundation, the Carter Center, worked to establish the International Criminal Court (ICC), said: "If you read the law textbooks ... you'll see very clearly that it's not genocide and to call it genocide falsely just to exaggerate a horrible situation I don't think it helps."

The reason the U N wont ad mitt that it is Genocide is part of the U N mandate says they must act to stop it.

The reason Jimmy wont has been obvious for years.

Did you also notice that the U.S. is the only country that calls it genocide? I'm not saying we're wrong, but having never been there, I don't feel I have the right to judge Jimmy Carter for his analysis. I heard the reason behind this situation in Darfur was comparable to the trouble in the western U.S in the 1800's over the use of land for agricultural purposes that were not compatible. These people were displaced and are now subjected to gross mistreatment.

So are you an expert on Sudan? Have you ever been there? How do you know that it is genocide?

Definition of Genocide: "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; [and] forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."

The situation in Sudan is deplorable, but that doesn't make it genocide.

Carter never met a foreign despot he didn't love.

It must stem from his innate, linguine-spined, wimpy nature, making him wish he had instead grown up to be big, strong, iron-fisted and powerful, just like the thugs he so admires.

Given him a break, senility is a very sad thing to deal with. Although he seemed to be the same way 30 years ago.
