No because we really have different opinions because our individual goals are very different. Economically, poor people want different approaches to trade, etc. than corporate leaders. People who live in states that depend on coal as their major economic resource will not vote for turning to alternative energy programs. People voting on what to do about Iraq are not as informed as our government leaders. There would be nothing but chaos.
The idea of polls would be workable in a small, non diverse group, but not for an entire country that has very diverse needs.

At that point, they are no longer leaders.
They are followers.
Consider all of the stupid actions that would have been taken if the leader at the time had just followed the polls. Where would Lincoln be? Where would Churchill be?

No. Polls are misleading. The person taking the polls frames the question and analyzes the answers. You don't know what is his agenda. So the information is not reliable.
The main stream news media runs polls to create news, thus giving them something to report as news.

Nope, I am of the belief that our leaders know and should know more than what we do. Do you really want our policy determined by the millions that watch "American Idol?" Please, we have enough problems as it is.
