Tracking ovulation through fertility awareness procedures is the best way to identify the appropriate time to get pregnant. However, ovulation kits and fertility monitors help further determine your expected ovulation by picking up the luteinizing hormone (LH).
What is the luteinizing hormone (LH)?
The luteinizing hormone is always present in your urine and increases 24-48 hours prior to ovulation. The LH surge triggers ovulation, which is the release of an egg from one of your ovaries. Ovulation is the most fertile time of your cycle.
When is the best time to perform an ovulation test?
The first step is to use the fertility awareness process to determine the best day to start testing based on your monthly cycle. Most ovulation tests may be used at any time of the day; some suggest first morning urine, but it is not required. For greater success, test about the same time each day and reduce your liquid intake for four hours beforehand.
Fertility monitors allow you to identify and track your ovulation month to month. Some people find fertility monitors to be more convenient and easier than tracking body temperature and cervical mucus. Others like to use fertility monitors and fertility awareness techniques for further confidence.
Here is a sample of how the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor works.
How accurate are ovulation tests?
Ovulation tests are approximately 99% accurate in detecting the LH surge. Order Ovulation Kit or Monitor
What should I do if I have used all the tests and I do not see a surge?
If you have not ovulated during your testing days, you will not have detected the LH surge. It is probable that ovulation has not occurred. Unfortunately, the best thing to do is additional testing with another ovulation testing kit and watch for ovulation.
What do I need to do if I have been monitoring my ovulation for several months and pregnancy has not occurred?
First, it is important to remember that it can take normal, healthy couples twelve months to become pregnant. There are many factors which affect your ability to become pregnant even if you have been able to have intercourse during your most fertile time. If after several months you are having no success, consult your physician. Since you have been monitoring your LH surge with an ovulation test, you will be able to give your doctor a clear picture of how you have been ovulating.

When is the best time to have intercourse?
The three days immediately after a positive test represent the best time to have intercourse and increase the probability of getting pregnant. The first or second day will account for the day prior to ovulation and the third day should be the day of ovulation.
What conditions, drugs or medications affect the test?
The following conditions may create an inaccurate result in the tests:
If you are pregnant
If you have recently been pregnant
If you have reached menopause
Some prescription drugs such as menotropins for injection (Pergonal®) and danazol (Danocrine®), may affect the result. If you are undergoing therapy with Clomiphene citrate (e.g. Clomid® or Serophene®), please consult with your physician for the appropriate time to begin testing. Usually you should start testing 3 days after taking the last tablet.
Do hormonal contraceptives affect the results?
It is important to consult with your physician about the best time to get pregnant once you have stopped using contraceptive methods. After using hormonal contraceptives, you may experience an irregular cycle. Ideally, you will wait until your cycle stabilizes, which also makes it easier to monitor your ovulation. You may wish to wait until you have had two normal periods before starting to use an ovulation kit.
Is it okay to use ovulation tests or fertility monitors as a means of contraception?
It is not recommended to use ovulation tests or fertility monitors as a means of tracking your ovulation in order to avoid pregnancy. Ovulation tests only identify the LH surge up to 24 to 48 hours before ovulation, and sperm can survive in the body up to 3 to 5 days. Therefore, if you have intercourse before you discover your surge, the egg could still be fertilized.
How quickly can I determine if I am pregnant?
The best time to test for pregnancy occurs at the expected date
On what day of my cycle should I start testing?
A: If you have a variable cycle, you should use the date of your shortest cycle in the past six months as a starting time.

Sperm can live for up to 72 hours in the body. If you were most fertile on Thursday, sex on Wednesday was fine.
Also sex in the morning has been proven to make a difference as the sperm have been re-building overnight and are like little troopers when they awaken!
Friday night was possible a little late, depending on your body, the egg could have still been travelling down the tube.
It sounds like you caught your fertile time pretty well.
What you muist do now is NOT too much strenoeous excercise (no horseriding or aerobics) as if youhave conceived your body needs to 'build a home' for your feutus and doesn't need to be bouncing up and down.
I am TTC and I am just about to take a course of Clomid. If you have been TTC for more than 6 months I would recommend this as I have heard great things about it!
Keep tracking you BBT and using OPK. Don't make sex a chore - tests show if women are 'horny' it increases their chances of conception. Oftena holiday or weekend break can help.
And remember to put a pillow under your hips just after having sex for an hour or so (helps if its nighttime and you can sleep like that!), this allows the sperm to sink in.
Sorry for rambling and good luck!

When you see a positive OPK it means you will ovulate in the next 12-48 hours, with about 36 hours being average. So you got the pos opk on Thurs evening then most likely you ovulated Friday night/Sat. morning. So intercourse on Friday night was perfect.

You hit the days before and after you ovulated...you did everything right! It's never a guarantee, of course, but I think you've got a pretty good shot. :)
Good luck!
