My father and grandfathers had better more fulfilling, less stressful lives than me. For the working class the last 20 years we have lost ground, not just in the battle of the sexes but in wages and quality of life.
So do I go back now and start from scratch after I have built a life in this time or do I get to start over in a different time? Alot of difference there.
Also what social class would I be born into? Any part of history the upper classes have it very good. But through most of history the poor were little more than slaves.
Ok, here is my choice. I'm part Shoshone-Bannock. I would choose to go back to the short golden age when the Indians acquired the horse but before the Europeans invaded the west.

In 1950 in UK, there was still food rationing left over from the war. We had small quantities of sugar, tea, washing soap, soap-flakes, bread, butter, meat and eggs. Deodorants were hard to find, the average house had no refrigerator, no washing machines or driers. Washing was pegged out by the Mrs every Monday. The average working class house didn't have a vacuum cleaner - there was a Ewbank - a manual carpet sweeper. Most houses were heated by coal fires. The front step of most houses was either hearth-stoned or waxed. There were no detergents, no plastics, nobody drank wine - olive oil was bought in the chemists. There were condoms like goloshes, but no 'pill'. There were no boilers - but there were gas geysers and families on average had one bath a week. People actually smelled because there were few cleaning shops so their suits and coats were 'spot-cleaned' by the wife. Average salaries were not high, and replacements were either expensive or just not available. There was no television, no record players - pick-ups that played through the radio were used. There were three BBC radio stations. Most weddings were 'economy', or the bride made all the dresses - out of whatever fabric there was going. Sewing machines were manual. Not everybody had aa telephone. For the first time working class grammar school boys were encouraged to apply for a university education. This alone changed the whole face of our society in one magnificent democratic move. Anti-biotics were just starting to be generally available. There were still gas-lit streets, cobblestoned roads and everywhere signs of destruction from the war in every street in every city in the country.

I would like to go back to a time when raising your own children was not considered a luxury "hobby" only for the very rich, like yachting. I guess that's basically 99% of human history.
Perhaps I'd enjoy times in the simple world of hunter-gatherers. Women had plenty of freedom, spent the day chatting with other women and playing with babies, and gathering fruits and veggies for the family. Children played together outdoors, with no risk of being kidnapped. Marriage was for love, since the whole community took care of each other, and pregnant women weren't dependant on just one person. I guess that's probably the golden age of Women's Rights. The only problem? Illnesses. I would hate watching my child die from a "simple" thing like measles.

This life has been hard enough, I don't even want to relive the 1960's or 1970's, when women were "nice" or "s!uts", blacks had their "separate but unequal" schools/housing/lives, and gays and lesbians were attacked and beaten by the police.
While I was growing up, birth control was finally becoming readily available, abortion was finally made legal, women weren't officially restricted to "female" jobs, blacks actually could vote and some blacks could get some decent education; rape, incest, domestic violence, and sexual harassment were words actually being said aloud in public; gays and lesbians actually fought back against the police who were beating them.
It was hard enough living through it the first time, I don't want to do it again. I'll stay right here.

I would not accept a ticket to THAT part of the past....
I would accept a ticket to the past, where, a long time ago, societies were largely egalitarian and people hunted and gathered for food.

I wouldn't go back to the past for any reason. If I had to sit at home with my children while my husband worked all day to provide for me, I'd deliberately fall on some sharp rocks. If I can't be a career woman, I don't want to be anything.

Yes I would go back to the past, provided there was a DECENT man who truly loved me and took care of me as a good husband should. It shouldnt feel like a power thing, it should feel like a good match of characters, and a good marriage based on love and keeping each other happy. Stuff the tv and computers! Good riddance to cars, give me a horse! The only thing that would worry me is childbirth. Back in the olden days too many mothers and children died. And medicine generally meant a lot of suffering for people.

Go back to what, say, feudalism, where men, women, and children worked themselves to death in the field to produce enough food to pay their land lease (tax) and still eat?
No thanks.

no way in hell. Yes, times were easier in the past. we didnt have so much stress and the world was not so shitty a place to live in. But there are so many revolutionary changes now that its better just to stay in the present
