I have a '96 chevy s-10 blazer. the transmission fluid is very dark and i notice that when i get up to 20mph it jerks when it shifts. I heard there could be a problem on high milage vehicles with a flush. Is this true. what should i do?

thanx

Yes change out the clutch materal ground up in the fluid and the transmission might not move after the flush. I save the old fluid when I drop the pan look at the magnets and filter if the magnet has 1/4 inch of metal filings and the pan looks like a gold miners with brass colored pieces the transmission is done. On 12 year old auto transmissions with very few oil changes leave it alone and save up for a new transmission.

well for one thing when you get the trany flushed there is no extra pressure than just like running the car. The machine uses the tranny pump from the car to push the old fluid out and the machine puts the new fluid in. If you smoked for 30 years and then said i think I will quit and someone says don't do that my friend did that and he died a month later. There is no relevance there is what i mean if you quit smoking it is a good thing to do. Same thing with the tranny it can only make things better by changing the fluid.

Most trans pans have no drain plugs in them, dropping a trans pan is very messy, getting the gassket to seat right is a pain in the ( well you know). The fast lube places have the space and tools to do a complete fluid transfer for you. If the trans fliter and fluid have never been out then both will need to be changed. I have had it do on my 96 Grand Marquis (119.000 plus miles) and it shifts well and doesn't leak at all.It will cost around $100.00 for the fluid transfer and another $50.00 for a new filter. The tech said to get them done every 30.000 mile ( flush at 30.000 and flush with filter at 60.000) if its stop and go type driving. If you do lots of high way driving then you can add about 15.000 to the formula(45.000 to 90.000) Dealerships do these types of service now, its called a Power Flush.

Pat Goss of TV's "Motor Week" PBS show recommends not flushing with a flush machine in such cases and simply draining and refilling with a filter change. The theory is that the deposits built up on the internal surfaces will be dislodged using a flush machine and clog sensitive passageways in the transmission.
The moral of the story is to change your transmission fluid every 30000 miles on that next new car you buy.
