Hi wind - I'm a language student. My native language is english but I'm learning german and japanese. I would like to learn mandarin chinese - should we do language exchange? I can help you with english and you could help me learn a little mandarin chinese?
One way that I use often is to download free podcasts from itunes (you can download the itunes program for free aswell)

they have many great podcasts for people who are learning english as a second language.

My husband first started learningEnglish by watching TV and going to movies.He often didn't even know what the story was about,he sort of guessed his own movie.
Also he watched alot of kids shows since they have more basic English being used. Good luck.(His native language is Hungarian)
