Oh Betty, Do you remember that ?? Yes I do. My Aunt's had those phones. I was old enough to remember that. Like year 1934. They hung from the wall. You talked into the wall part and listened by a device hanging on the end of a cord attached to the phone box. ~~~
Central knew everything and every one had so many long & short rings. They knew their ring, but anyone could pick up their phone & listen in.
My Mother had to work so hard & we couldn't afford one. I thought my aunts must be rich. They took turns taking care of me. My Mother was very ill with ulcerated stomach & worked day & night when she was the least bit able to. What a woman. What a Mother. May she RIP.
We have seen a lot of changes since then. Was that the good ole days, Betty ?? God Bless You~~~Jerri

Yes I do, we had a party line as i was growing up, it could be quite funny listening in on the other party line owners conversation, especially when they couldn't hear you! It was a real nuisance though as I got older, you might be desperate to make a call, only to be greeted by the inane chatter of the other party line owner when you picked up the receiver, it could be really frustrating! Can you imagine it being introduced today, no one would stand for it, would they?

I vaguely remember them when I was a pre-teenager.

Yes..they were a pain ..but didn't we get our line rental cheaper ??
