Currenty have 2 Dell Inspiron 1550 notebooks with XP. We're considering getting a desktop and network the notebooks. So much negative about Vista...should I get a desktop with XP or Vista? Will my XP notebooks work with a Vista desktop?

my advice is stay with xp, i have seen that people say vista has bugs it dosent have bugs, the problem is microsof released vista before its time it really is the way of the future when its properly up and running, which it will be hopefully soon, my advice is stay with xp until vista is properly running which will most probably be in the next year or so, but if you wanted to trial vista and keep xp you could make your computer dual boot, by installing vista into a seperate partition on your hard drive, and then when you start your computer you can choose to go into xp, or vista or buy another hard drive and install it with vista (which might be easier for you than partitioning your original hard drive, and then you can still dual boot, remember when buying vista that you will need a good proccessor the one you have already will work fine, and a good load of ram, about 1gig of ram will be fine, maybe 2, 2gig will make it run faster, good luck with that

get XP!!! XP is now finally patched enough to consider it stable :) Vista is a very young OS -> it's far not so stable as XP is.
Becides: I heard that the Vistas networking module had been reprogrammed from scratch (so it's not a modified XP-version, like many other modules) => there are probably millions of bugs in there (that's typical for brand new programms)

Stick with XP until they get the bugs out of Vista.

i have the dell inspiron 1501 and we decided to get the windows vista, i have to admit that it is pretty fancy although b/c it is so 'high-tech' some webpages and games are not recognizable or my computer will change the color scheme to make them accessible. xp is perfect for what you need, the only reason why we got vista was b/c it was a free upgrade when we purchased our laptop. as for your computers working together i am not that computer savvy so i cannot say.

i've heard many negative things about vista. it seems not to be compatible with new hardwares and even softwares and u can't open some types of dvd in it. and besides it is new and the problems aren't completely known yet. at least everything about windows xp is known and u can solve the problems more easily.

I have vista on my new laptop, it has it's problems, but you should still go with it, because eventually software won't be compatible with XP and you'll have to get vista anyway. You might as well get it now because it will last.
