I have a friend that named her son Ivan. The kids at school always teased him for some reason about that name. The called him Igor instead.Changing the spelling to Ivyn seems worse to me.Make it his middle name.

I like then name Ivan spelled just like that but I think Ivyn is kinda cool. Not Ivann though the ann part reminds me to much of a girls name.

Ivan is the Russian version of the name that is John in English (it's really popular in other countries as well like Johann is the German version etc.) Ivann and Ivyn just look kind of weird.
It's very popular in Russia, but I don't know how it would go in English...

Ivan is the Russian form of John. In Russian it's pronounced ee-VAHN, while in English it's usually EYE-van.

Personally, I think it's a fine name. However, I think changing the spelling to Ivann or Ivyn seems to feminize it (like Camryn is a feminized version of Cameron.)

Although Ivan is "old," it's not very common in the US, so I think if she wants to name her son Ivan, she should spell it in the usual way, Ivan.

Ivan is the Russian form of John.

Changing the spelling doesn't change the name, it just makes the parents look stupid. It's a perfectly good name, but if she doesn't like it tell her to pick something else -- something that isn't made-up or misspelled.
