or bel3araby keda "3al ahwa"? What is so good about it? It seems to me that a lot of Egyptian men's best time is the time they spend at elahwa. Why? is it because of friends (elshillah), sheesha, or tawla? Or maybe the homemade coffee and tea isn't as good and tastey as the ones made in elahwa. And why do some men prefer to go to the dirty, cheap ones?lool

or is it only my husband? lol

Zoser- I hear ya! Why can't Egyptian women go to elahwa too! because my husband goes a lot I always tell him take me with u, lool, but he always refuses. About the noise and all.... I hate it. I live in a very crowded area and there is always transportation noise.. heh, love it or leave it!

Eman- u cracked me up!!!! a3deen ta7t elkobry hehehe.

Farah- khawagat eh ya hanem ma ti7tirmy nafsik :P and who said my husabnd is khawaga, he's never been out of Egypt lol. I guess the filthy ones have a different taste, different atmosphere, different feeling :)). sheesha is tastey :p but very bad for health and as zoser mentioned, it's equal to a whole pack of cigarrets

Ya Ruby, you were living in US, in the west they like to go to pubs , bars, instead in Egypt they go to al kahowah,,it may be more a little in Egypt for some reasons
1)Social clubs are not that cheap .. a coffee shop will replace that
2)The architecture in Egypt , obliges people to be out in the streets, bad ventilation, small, houses are attached to each others (most of the houses are not livable)

As for choosing a dirty cheap one, simply because we do not have to be that formal to go there , (I always feel bad when I go to a not modest restaurant , I have to dress up, I may meet one of my business contacts ,not real friends of mine, and that is a burden )
I feel sorry for kids that they do not have spaces to play, and Egyptian Women that they can not go also to alkhawah…lol
The definitions of a house as Sakan is not there in Egypt, how can you have sakenah in a narrow not ventilated noisy (because of the other neighbors) houses in Egypt (not florida homes ) unless you are living in one of the new compounds…

farah : I think Shishah is justa modernization of ignorance. In my time we used to think who smokes shishah is only al...wallah blash ,,,actually one dose of shishah is equal to more than a box of cigarettes,, plus it is a main reason for TB infection even with the funny plastic tip they put (the viruses and bacteria still there in the pipe ) hahaha

Ruby hahahaha why can not you go to a coffee shop???, Ya Ruby, to Egyptian women bad luck , it is hard even to walk in the streets, just to buy grocery, wallahi it is even diffecult for men to do so,,,, we have to admit , the country now is full of Safallah,, I hate to say it,, Plus generally women are cleaner than men, you will not like what you will see in these coffee shops, but still women go to coffee shops (the modern ones like cenetro, costa cafe...etc

Ruby, I hate to disappoint you, but I am the kind which you may call " Beta3 baitoh ". Meaning that I love to spend all my time with my wife and kids. I never go to " Elahawy ' unless I should meet someone that I don't want him to visit me at home, mostly non-relatives or casual friends. When I do sit there, my order will be " sa7lab " because I don't get it much at home. In general, these " Ahawy " suck.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ya Ruby ya333333333333333333! Your hubby goes to cheap and dirty ahawy?!! ya33333333 hehehehehe Wi 3amleen feeha khawagat?!! looool

No seriously, I hate just passing by those hell holes. It has nothing to do with cheap or expensive, they both suck. The mere smell of "ilmi3asil" bita3 ilsheesha makes me feel sick. It's disgusting. And ilsiya3 ilma2atee3 sitting there all day long with nothing better to do than harass the women passing by in the streets ... it's awful. I know some go there to meet friends because clubs are out of the question for some, but it really is unhealthy. I think it's gross, filthy and disgusting too. I am being too harsh, but nobody can deny that sheesha is unhealthy. Thank God hubby is not a smoker and hates those places too. He NEVER sets his foot in those places!

When I visited Egypt , I saw this also, but I think it was a common meeting place , I'm english and i went also, and with some friends it seemed it was a great place and time to discuss politics. Cheers! Woman go shopping and men go to coffee shops.

where do you go to meet and talk to friends?
i think coffee shops are great places. though it does depend on the coffee shop, but restaurants are often too formal and anyway when you have finished your meal you have to leave. i like the informal atmosphere and the fact that you can all get together and talk all night. but i do hate sheesas..... they smell.

just a place for friends to gather, talk, tell jokes, watch tv, play tawla to the rest, no matter what your husband chooses to do as a pastime, you will feel a bit jealous and left out, at least they are mainly men, less to worry about :)
