I'm going to assume this isn't an autograph of some major player in MLB. If it happens to be; then you might consider putting the bat away safely and get another.

Obviously the first two answers are correct; and unless it's a trophy bat; you shouldn't mind any obvious; albeit minor abrasions from the process.

If you mean Sharpie, then use some finger nail polish remover on a piece of 0000 extra fine steel wool. The extra fine steel wool is important because it won't scratch the bat to much if you scrub with the grain. You will definitely have to scrub, but take your time and make sure to put the polish remover on the steel wool and not the bat. Gasoline also works. When your finished, let dry then go over it with the same color wood stain using a clean dry cloth. GOOD LUCK!!
