i turn on my central heating and it sounds like someone is inside the pipes with a hammer. In fact the whole thing sounds like its moving about and house is like thunder.

why? And how can i make it work properly?

Certainly sounds like; or similar too STEAM Heat. Not at all similar to electrically heated/ forced air heating/cooling. The condition isn't unique; and to bleed the lines might aleviate the situation.

You need to purge the air out of the system common problem. above the circulator pump you should see a shut off valve and a drain valve close the shut off connect hose to drain valve open it till you get steady stream of water with no sputtering.

Make sur that the ducts are poperly secured as they could actually be bouncing around in your attic space.

Reduce the speed of the pump, it normally has 3 speeds.
