a sonnet is fourteen lines long, by definition.

a ballad doesn't have a fixed length, but it tells a single event. a ballad is the poetic equivalent of a short story then.

an epic tells a full narrative with multiple events and usually many characters.

a sonnet is always fourteen lines. a ballad is typically a few hundred. and epic is nearly always a few thousand.

so the epic is the longest.

A sonnet has 14 lines only, hence the shortest.
Epics and ballads are pretty long and the lengths depend on whoever performs them. Some epics like Greek (Homeric) epics originally were short and episodic, others like the Ozidi saga of the Ijaw people took seven days to perform replete with relevant rituals. Ballads in print also consist of collages joined together.
Hence epics in print are often taken to be longest of the three genres, whereas ballads are longer than sonnets.

good luck
