I'm posting this for information more than anything else. So far it's mainly been major contributors that have been the target of lawsuits by the music industry. Thursday a jury found in favor of the recording industry against a single mom for a total of 24 songs.

I'm not making any kind of judgment, but I think this is something you sould be aware of if you download music, movies, and/or software. Not just because of the target but because the lawsuit was successful which may result in more lawsuits against small time users/contributors.

There seems to be a myth regarding the "free" downloading of music: that all of the bands that you download the music of are rich. I plan on putting some music available for a PAID download on the Internet in a few weeks or months, and I am NOT super-wealthy. Do you think these bands got to be rich by giving away all of their music for free? Downloading music without permission is stealing and is now legally defined to be just that. There are some music files that can be downloaded legally, but the ones that aren't - couldn't you just pay the 99 cents for the track and be done with it?
