Be nice to people around you. If you are better of than others, don't gloat about it and help those who need help.

Oh and the laughter helps as well (previous answerer)

Why? Casting an evil eye in my country meant that someone was looking at you with envy and wishing you ill. The best protection I can think of is to be a good person so no one would even think of wishing you unwell.

The "evil finger" as someone else said maybe, thats based off of an old roman belief that phallic symbols could ward off evil. Iron or rowan perhaps, thats a celtic take on the things, its probably best to find your own cultures defenses.

There's many ways to do it, with preferences varying according to culture. Many believe that is why people began to wear reflective, shiny objects.....

Examining the traditional folk beliefs of a particular culture----as recorded by ethnographic/anthropological (rather than pop/new age) researchers----will give you better insight, context, and effectiveness.
