It depends very much on your major as well...

Some majors are very time intensive. An example is the sciences and particularly health sciences where a lab class might require 3-6 hours in class for only 1 credit. Nursing is known for requiring incredible time in class and lab.

In a typical major though, say English or History or Business; you'd take 15 hours per semester which means 15 hours in class per week. On a MWF schedule you'd have 5 hours per day in the classroom on those 3 days -- on a 5-day schedule you'd be in the classroom 3 hours per day.

Expect to put in about as much study and homework time as yu do classtime and maybe much more sometimes.

It depends on what course of study you are going to take - how long do you want to be involve in your goal of study - and how much can you afford to stay in school in order to be good at your choice of career.

If you will just go to college to just take some courses and be said college graduate after finishing - then it should not put you too long at school - but if you want to a success in your choses course - then it should take you long hours because you wanted to be really good at it and be very employable after graduation.

Depends on your subjects. Stuff like science tends to have more because they have long practicals. I would say 3-6.
