Because toy manufacturers want to turn in more profit. Having Barbie friends allows them to 1) manufacture dolls that won't sell by themselves but will sell because they are connected to Barbie and 2) make more money.

You aren't paying them to hang out with Barbie, you're paying both them and Barbie to be friends with you. Get some real friends and ditch the dolls.

Barbie is boring, I like her friends more. They have more flavor. Plus it's just a marketing scheme to get people to buy/collect more dolls.

Most pretentious "pretty" people have to do the same. Comes with the territory. You need depth to have true friends. Barbie and her friends are hollow.
