In railways and banks it is considered as age over 60 yrs. but for income tax guidelines it is considered as age over 65 yrs. Why is the difference?

Because any company can set any age they wish. AARP rather ridiculously sets it at 50 which gets them more members so they can get more political umpf - like not testing driving of senior citizens. 65 used to be the age for retirement under government programs - now Social Security is being pushed both higher for full collection (65 & 10 months for me) and lower for early collection (62.5)
I have to ask repeatedly because I have encountered 60, 62, 64, and 65 for senior citizen discounts.

Here in Oh,we are considered senior when we hit 55 yrs old and get discounts on food, hotels. Federal considers seniors at the age they start drawing Social Security. About banks and railways I can't answer that cause we don't have rail transportation. The State gives rebates to anyone 65 yrs old on property taxes. Go figure.

People in the 65-and-over age group are often called senior citizens.
However, as the age for superannution in government departments is 60 years ,hence, banks and Railways have fiexed 60 yrs. as the limit for counting senoo citizen

I think 65 is the oldest, but AARP started sending me membership info when I turned 50. I know that in my county 55 is a magic number as far as property taxes are concerned. I don't know the details because I'm not quite there yet, but I sure intend to find out. My taxes are killing me. And, and the programs and services at school that we used to take for granted, like riding the bus or being in the band, now have fees attached to them. Sorry. Didn't intend to go off on a tangent. The word "taxes" just gets me so riled up.

Every organization sets its own guidelines. AARP says 50 (they sell more memberships that way). The local restaurants and discount stores are all different. Sometimes it is a $$ making thing and sometimes a customer solicitation. With the government it will almost always be an older age because it is dealing with government money.

Any reason is just a conjecture!
It make's very little difference in Sen. Cit. defination as in IT.
Railways and Banks - concession's are too marginal and are ornamental- hence it does not matter if 58 or 60 or 65
