An "orb" is a round thing. Any round thing. An eye, a christmas tree ball and the earth are all orbs.
orb
c.1420 (implied in orbicular), "sphere, globe," also "emblem of sovereignty," from O.Fr. orbe (13c.), from L. orbem (nom. orbis) "circle, disk, ring," probably related to orbita "wheel track, rut," of unknown origin. Some suggest a connection with the root of orchid (q.v.). A three-dimensional extension of a word originally describing two-dimensional shapes. Astronomical sense is from 1526, in ref. to the hollow spheres that carried the planets and stars in the Ptolemaic system. Orb weaver spider is first recorded 1889.

Well first off, Very nice second picture! I love standing on my horse Reb. Ha(: Second, yeah, make sure your camera s clean, and you are in the dirt, so it very well could be dust. But there is always that possibility! One way to be sure of if you're getting orbs or not, is to look at them carefully. They need to be perfect circles. Also, when you zoom in, check the color. Orbs tend to have a distinct colored circle in the middle. As long as the circle isn't red - which is generally found as malicious spirits- then you have no reason to worry. Some orbs have even been found to contain faces! So just take your time and check thoroughly. And of course, happy ridding!

Spirit or Ghost Orb
The Orb Theory based on the findings of our field investigations and through our research. It is discovered that an orb represented the soul of a departed person. The soul being the essence of who they were in life, complete with their intelligence, their emotions and their personality. The orb or sphere is common in our every day lives. The earth and moon are spheres. Our blood cells are sphere shaped. The vision of Black Elk describes hoops within hoops. We use the symbol of the circle to represent eternal existence, with no beginning nor end. When the spirit is moving about, its shape is an orb, but when it comes to rest, meaning that it is no longer in motion, the spirit energy that is compressed within the orb is released and this spirit energy expands into what we call Ecto-Vapor or Ectoplasm. Often an orb will contain more than one soul and when its spirit energy is released, multiple orbs flow forth from the single orb. The orb may be observed as a small white sphere shooting through a room and through a wall. When recorded on film, the orb size is often confused because the photo is only 2D and its size is dependent on how far from the lens the orb is when captured by the camera.

I believe they are supernatural. Some people can even see them with the naked eye when the flash goes off. I see faint orb-like points of light in my normal vision from time to time, especially when in a meditative mindset. You may notice that orbs take on a variety of appearances... I've noticed a lot of them in pictures where people are particularly active; I believe they are a form of energy, what the Chinese call Qi or Chi. It is interesting that cameras pick them up so easily; the Native Americans believed that a camera could steal or capture one's soul.
My advice to you is to believe that these things are in fact supernatural... Keep an open mind, save the images you find, and compare your findings. Scientific progress is made through keeping an open mind; not doubting and discrediting everything that comes your way as being mundane or usual. I'm sure electricity and radio waves would have been an unbelievable concept to people 500 years ago.
Just because something can't be seen or perceived by normal means does not necessarily mean it does not exist.

Orbs are dust.
You might try watching Ghost Hunters on Sci Fi Channel sometime. The guys on that show examine "haunted" buildings to see if there really is something out of the ordinary going on in them. Most of the time, the hauntings are easily debunked. They find orbs all the time and consistently show that they are caused by dust floating in the air.

I think that most orbs or other strange lights or wisps of smoke are probably just camera malfunctions or some other environmental cause (lit cigarette in vicinity). My in-laws took pictures at one of their homes and were so proud to show us pictures of the "ghost" which looked to me like cigarette smoke wafting in front of a lamp but they (who were chain smokers) swore that nobody was smoking in the house at the time.
I could be totally off too, but most of the photographs I've seen that purport to show ghosts really look like light reflections. If you hold a camera at just the right angle outside you can cause a digital picture to show a whole stream of what looks like orbs but are really just lights reflecting off the camera's lens. Naturally, I won't believe it's a ghost unless I've seen it, heard it or felt it myself and even then many of these experiences can be scientifically explained. Old homes settle and creak as night falls because the air begins to cool outside. This is sometimes attributed to paranormal activity but is really just natural noises. Sometimes a strong gust of wind sounds like a moan and a distant television or radio sounds like ghosts whispering. I have experienced several ghostly encounters in a variety of places - a couple were things nastier than a ghost and I can explain none of them. I don't mind the ghosts so much as I didn't feel terrified or panicked but the nastier things did frighten me - for good reason.

Well if it's a true orb then it is a presence that is watching over you (spirit guide, angel) whatever you like to think of it. Sometimes it's someone from the spirit realm who wants to observe whats going on (like at weddings and funerals, celebrations etc) Nothing to fear I assure you. If anything take comfort in them.
:)
P:S Photo's are funny things, light plays many tricks. Not all you think is an orb necessarily is one.

Sorry to inform you but most "orbs" caught on film are just dust particles reflecting light. I realized this when I noticed that my pictures with the most "orbs" were taken in rooms not cleaned very often or in a very dusty place like a barn.

Nothing. They are dust. the light from the camera reflects off of dust particles in the air. You can easily show this by taking a dusty rug or pillow and shaking it in front of a camera and take pictures using flash - you get "orbs"

Some may be disfunctions in a camera or film. Others may be spirit lights.
