The average is $723 for a 1 bedroom, and usually studios are a little cheaper: http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/AZ-Phoenix-Pricing.html
But Phoenix is a big place, so you may want to narrow it down a bit, otherwise, you'll be sifting through hundreds of apartments: http://www.forrent.com/search-apartments-by-area/AZ/Greater-Phoenix.php

Rental prices vary greatly depending on the area of the city or bedroom communities that you are interested in. You may want to check out renting a room in someone's house by checking out Roommates.com (I think there are two "m"s in there. Just be cautious to really check out the situation to see if there is compatibility with things like drinking, drugs, smoking, religious affiliations, overnight guests, etc. There are lots of place in the Phoenix area for rentals of this nature because properties have gone up in price and utility cost are high with air conditioning. Often times a homeowner will need to rent out a room with house privileges to someone to help with the payment.
