Because Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Mercury, Venus, Mars, are all names. They're the names of Greek gods and goddesses. The earth is a secular term for the planet. However, sometime we do call it "Planet earth." In Greek mythology, Mother Earth's name was Gaia. So, I guess you could just call the earth Gaia, if you really wanted to.

The word the is the only definite article of the English language. A definite article (English the) is used before singular and plural nouns that refer to a particular member of a group.
The cat is on the black mat.
It has to do with proximity, like when you say I'm going to the
house. (the house where I live as apposed to a house). When you say the Moon everyone knows your talking about the moon that circles the earth.

Because I suppose we have to have some way to be special. Maybe the Jupiterians say The Jupiter. I don't know. I am not there to ask. Personally I am happy with Earth or The Earth. Makes no difference to me. Pax- C

Using the definite article "the" in front of an uncapitalized "earth" has its roots in the worldview that we are separate from and fundamentally different.
Kind of the way when someone talks about themself in 3rd person. They refer to themselves with "the". Kind of like The Rock "Dwayne Johnson". When he's in character of "The Rock" he talks about himself in 3rd person in interviews and says, "The Rock says....". Kind of silly, but the same principle.
