Depends largely on yoru formatting, a properly encoded DIVX file can fit on a 700MB CD-R that far surpasses VHS at its best, I think its safe to assume that it will never rival the encoding bitrate used for DVD's as well as the less restrictive space limitations so I won't go into two or three paragraphs adding that point, but CDs are certainly more versatile, light weight and don't inheritly wear out like VHS tapes do.

Compared to CDs, or DVDs, what possible advantage could VHS still have?
You can record video on DVD, without the degradation that you get with VHS. In addition, you can skip around the DVD, as opposed to VHS, which can only be accessed linearly.

Why use either, when DVD is so cheap.
