It's not weird if it is a last name. It is definitely uncommon if it is his first name.

I just found this about unusual names and thought it was funny, so I'll share it here: "I'm thinking about naming my baby "Zannia Amari Smith", but whenever I tell people other than my family they just look at me and say "thats different".
I guess people are put off by weird names like Smith."

LOL. Anyway, your cousin is 19 years old. He's gone his whole childhood being called "Peoples." Why would he change it now?

I totally agree. Although in Australia, Matilda is a pretty "normal" name. It's pretty disappointing to see how people are changing names - spellings. And just down right bad names like Apple, Peaches, Pixie, Suri ect. There was a write up in the newspaper the other day on the spelling of names these days. J'ms was one. It is meant to be JAMES. 20 years time and no one will even know how to spell/speak proper english anymore. Ha.

i have never heard of it so to me it is weird sorry.is it a first name or last name? as a last name it is not bad as a first name it is out of place somewhat in America but he should not be mad.how would he feel if he met someone and there name was like tortilla or jalapeno or goat herder? don't worry about it.if it is his first name and it bothers him so much get himself a nick name he likes!!!! or legally change his name to something he likes that is a bit more common and understood where he lives!good luck,
