So, if the doc says that you are measuring small, does this mean that the baby is small? Or does this just mean that you are small? I am 36 weeks and measuring 35. This may sound like a silly question, but, whatever.
Also, for those of you who live in the U.S., when did they start checking for dialation?

They are measuring your uterus, not your baby, but a smaller uterus could potentially mean a smaller baby.
However, when doing uterine measurements, generally once you are in the second trimester and beyond, uterine measurements are considered to be within normal if you measure within 2 weeks in either direction. So if you're 36 weeks and measuring 35, that's still considered normal. If the doctor was concerned at all, they would order an ultrasound to actually measure the baby and your fluid volume. So don't worry!

Funny I ran across your question, I'm in the same boat as you!! I'm currently 34 weeks and am measuring at 32. The doctor on the safe side ordered an ultrasound just to check on the growth of the baby. As long as your not bleeding and your eating healthy (lots of protein), the little guy or girl is probably just small like mine is. I'm being checked to see if there is any dilation at my 36 week check-up.

There are "windows" of what acceptable measurements are at any given time. I am 24 weeks and measuring 25. My doctor said that is slightly big but within the normal range. Ideally speaking, if a woman is 24 weeks she should be measuring 24. But no one is exact and each woman is different. I think as far as what is measuring small, it's your uterus, not necessarily the baby. I wish I had more definite answers for you, but good luck!

It means the uterus is measuring smaller which can mean that your baby is small, fluid is low, conception date might be a little off.......nothing to worry about unless the Dr says so. Most Dr's don't start to check until either contractions start and/or you are at about 38 wks. They don't check much at all anymore as they don't think it is necessary. I got checked at 32 wks but i was in preterm labor then had to be rechecked every week up until giving birth at 36 wks.

The doctor is referring to how your uterus is measuring so he's not saying your baby is small.
I've measured small with two of my three pregnancies and delivered babies with healthy (full term) weights. Sometimes the measurement is off just because of the way your body is. Or sometimes, you're due date is just off by a week or two.
Either way, nothing to worry about.

that sounds about what i was at 36 weeks..and i had an 8lb 3 oz baby..which is a little bit bigger then average, but not huge... she startred checking for dialation at 36 weeks, however if you want you can ask her/him to check anytime now for your own curiosity... i only had her check the last 4 visits...

It could mean baby is small, but a due date is just an ESTIMATE. Only 2% of people deliver on there date exactly, don't forget that = ) it probably just means your due date is a little bit off.
