I like exxon Mobil (XOM), they constantly pay their quarterly dividends without fail, and tend to split quite regularly. They are a large company well established and a pretty safe bet to be around down the road. I would want this stock, or one that meets the criteria this one does.

Google. GOOG. No real threat - no real competitors (yeah, that's right, no real competitors, I said it here!). Does nothing but make money and at breakneck speed. Stock nearing $600/share. It has quadrupled since 2004 when the IPO quickly drove the price to $200/share. It was at a low of $475 in just August (after that big SNAFU with the subprime mortgage, credit crunch, etc.). Oh and 65% of the search user market - US alone. Bigger share in other countries like Germany and elsewhere (but not in Asia... :( )

CAT!! Why? Because I already own shares in this giant of a company? The best company to buy shares in is the one that's already in your portfolio. Remember, when it comes to portfolio size, bigger is not always better!
One thousand shares in five stocks I've researched and own and know about beats five shares in one thousand companies I don't know about!!!!
**** This is not an endorcement of any one stock or company other then for purposes of making my point. You have to do your own research and make all investing choices for your self....

Berkshire Hathaway class A shares--at a mere $119,000/share you'd be wealthy beyond the wildest dreams of avarice.
