I am looking at street bikes cause my boyfriend REALLY wants one and even though I am so against it cause they are extrememly unsafe...I can see how happy he would be if he had one. So I am just looking around and checking out prices. Well, I came across this one.....

And I just can't see how it can only cost a thousand dollars!!! I know very little about bikes so any help would be appreciated. Also, if you know of a website where they sell nice, used, inexpensive street-bikes let me know. Thanks so much.

Lol, I figured it was a typo or something. Lol @ Ming H, no he for sure wouldn't want that! Thanks for all the suggestions guys, keep em coming, very much appreciated! And you all are correct, it will be his first bike. He has ridden a dirt-bike before a few times but never got good at it...in fact, I was a better rider than him...but I was riding alot longer than him too.

Nate_82 I'm so sorry that happened to you!! Thats horrible! So many people are not careful around motorcyclists which is why I am so worried and don't want my boyfriend to get one! I know HE will be careful but what about all the wreckless drivers around him?? My friend saw an accident where the guy riding the motorcycle died instantly. He was riding on the freeway behind a car that had a mattress on top of it and the mattress was not strapped on very well so it slid off causing the guy on the bike to crash right into it and he flew to the other side of the freeway. My friend says his body was all tangled up and he just knew he was dead. I hear sooo many motorcycle accident stories and they never turn out good, it is just scary. But I know that having a motorcycle will make my boyfriend super happy, so as long as he promises to be super safe he might get one.

Lol @ bikinkawboy! First of all you didn't even answer the question I asked and second of all you sure do put your nose where it does NOT belong. Now, since you MUST know my life story before my boyfriend gets a motorcycle I shall tell you for I have nothing to hide. My boyfriend works in a hospital as a phlebotomist(draws blood)...YES, HE MAKES HIS OWN MONEY and he is going back to school for ultrasound in January HE DOES NOT LIVE OFF OF ME...I am a dental assistant and I am going back to school to be a dental hygienist as soon as my boyfriend gets out of school. We share a joint bank account so technically WE would be buying him the motorcycle. We have been together for almost 5 years and have been living together for a little over a year...we have also known each other for like 10 years...I am NOT worried in the least that he will choose his motorcycle over me...PUHLEASE! I would have to be pretty damn insecure! Oh yeah, and I DID just get a new car last month that WE are paying for

First of all, be careful about buying a bike for your boyfriend. He might decide he likes the bike better and dump you. If you are extremely generous and have money to blow on your boyfriend, make sure the title is put in his name. Sure, it he dumps you you'll have no recourse for retrieving your hard earned money, but the last thing you want is him doing something really stupid, causing an accident and since he has no money to buy his own bike, you'll be the one getting sued. Lastly, does this guy have a job or is he just sponging off of you? If this guy hasn't the financial means to buy his own bike, don't marry him because you'll be supporting his sorry butt the rest of your life. Now if he's making payments on the new car he bought you, ignore all of the above.

I think he should stick with the dirt bike for a while at least until he is as good as you. Simultaneously ( there could still be a few classes and openings near the end of this year's curriculum) take the MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) class, they train you for the street. And it only takes a couple days. It's really worth it, I did it in May.
Then, get gear and a bike.

This is the right time of the year to get a second hand bike, everyone wants to get rid of them in October / November, so this is the time to get one. I bought a bike two weeks ago, for like 1/2 to 2/3 the price they would ask in April/May at the beginning of the riding season.
Ride Safe !

There's an error. The description is for a Honda, and the pictured bike is a Suzuki. Also, I'd be conderned about the "no title" situation. Who knows why they don't have the title.

You're right, motorcycles are dangerous. A kid didn't see me, and at the last minute he pulled into the street, into my path. I swerved to go behind him, and then he saw me and stopped in the middle of the road. My bike didn't have strong brakes, and I landed on his trunk. Now my knee hurts whenever I walk uphill or for long distances.

Even the best drivers can get into bad situations. You're simply invisible on a motorcycle. In busy, urban situations, there are thousands of drivers who simply can't see you.

My advice:

1. Don't get a motorcycle.
2. If you do get one, stay on rural roads with little traffic.
3. Wear armoured clothing. I wish I had been wearing armoured pants. Maybe my knee would still be okay.

The answer to your question will be the same as the answer to this question: Do you want to die? I just got my first bike on monday, I paid a little extra and had the guy deliver it to a parking lot right by my house, practiced doing laps, starting stopping, all that sort of stuff for about an hour, then took on some empty back streets so i could get it up to 30. And have ridden it several hours a day for the last couple days and feel extremely comfortable already, i havent gone on highways (cant with your permit in my state), but have learned very quickly all the same. I taught myself with an 83 VF750 interceptor, i got it 1400 (a little above the blue book) its rated at 86 hp and at this point its plenty for me. I can crack open the throttle and only need to bring up to about 8k rpm and that gets me going pretty damn quick. I might sell it in the spring and might keep riding it for another year because its fast, reliable (i have read), and agile for its size. I would highly suggest a bike like mine, or a different 80's- early 90's sport bike, 750 cc or smaller, i was a bit scared of mine at first because its relatively heavy and really powerful (not compared to a hayabusa but equivalent power to weight ratio to an average sized car with about 350-400 hp). Ride it for a year, then move to something like a cbr750 or 900 or equivalent, and then after another year or so move up to one of the ones you mentioned, they are not to be taken lightly.

Sorry hon, but that is a Suzuki GSXR, the ad text and price is for a moped. The bike in the pic would be around 9 grand or so.

P.S. Motorcycles are not dangerous! Only the people who don't know how to ride them.

A "2005 Honda Metropolitan Moped" would cost about $1,000 but the pictured bike is a Suzuki sportbike which would cost thousands more. They put the wrong picture under the heading.

If your boyfriend wants a bike, and hasnt owned one before, he really should be looking at a bike similar to a ninja 250. 600cc and 1 liter bikes are way way way too fast for beginners to safely handle.

Here is a good thread about beginner motorcycles. I know its long, but there are tons of good articles posted in it. Post 19 is a very good one. http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?viewThread=y&gID=1&fID=4&tID=87668

Yeah, that's a 2007 Suzuki GSXR 600. MSRP $8,899.00. Someone took the wrong picture. If you pay that $1000, what he's really going to get is this: http://powersports.honda.com/scooters/model.asp?ModelName=Metropolitan&ModelYear=2008&ModelId=CHF508

And I can guarantee you that he's not gonna want one of these--cuz I won't!

The link is what the picture is suppose to be. Check your local paper for motorcycles for the best deals. cycletraderonline sometimes has good deals. ebay is getting more difficult to find bargins.
