but turns on when opening the passenger door?

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR LIGHT SWITCH IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY OR YOU HAVE A BURNED OUT BULB ARE THE GROUND WIRE TO THE SWITCH OR LIGHT AREA MIGHT BE BAD SO CHECK THESE AND I HOPE THIS HELPS THANKS AND GOD BLESS .......................

You seem to be having a few lighting problems with this truck. Might be time to invest in a repair manual instead of asking questions here. It`s a lot easier to "see" how it works than to try and understand someones description of a problem. But like a few others said, Replace the drivers door pin switch. It`s 18 years old and is the door that opens all the time. 7/16 wrench and $5 should fix it.

Switch in the door frame is either stuck or just not working. Open the door and look towards the bottom of the front of the door frame and see if it's stuck or or not.

the switch is made into the inside door latch you might try to lubercate it with penetrating oil ( WD40 ect)
