do you mean trying to get rid of it (compared to 'ignoring') -- and for sure people would ask, what sort of problem are you talking about -- there can be a psychological OR physiological angle (among others) to this -- for example, addictions have a biological component; you're a bit vague, but may I say: There's a Law of Reversed Effort, I heard about years ago, (applied it to quitting-smoking,) a paradox -- it seems the more you focus on something and put a lot of effort in it, it's more difficult than usual because it ends up being foremost in your mind -- compared to doing your best and trying to 'forget about' [as you say, ignore] it -- The main thing is displacement, trying to focus on something ELSE (An example: exercise as substitute for junk-food -- focusing on the exercise compared to thinking about food whatever) -- anyways, good luck, vis-a-vis your problem, whatever it is

The best way to get rid of a bad habit is to replace it with another, good habit. We need to constantly repeat the new, positive behaviour for some time until it becomes a habit, so patience and perseverance are essential. See the article at the link below.

Ignoring it doesn't seem to be working. Try working at not doing it. And each time you slip and do it, just start over again trying. You should get better with time if you are serious about stopping.
