I am doing a biology lab, and I really need help on this question??

basically its b/c cell wall is much more rigid than membrance
cell wall is made of cellulose (in plant it is, but varies in fungi and bacteria)
when the cell is placed in the hypertonic solution, it loses water or shrink. therefore, its membrane will be pulled away from the cell wall.
at this pt, the space b/w the membrane and the cell wall is filled with the hypertonic sltn.

The cell membrane is flexible.
The cell wall is relatively inflexible.
