I'm in a fiction workshop class. Personally? I dislike them. I don't like the deadlines, the pressure, or anything like that (although I love reading other peoples' stories! That's fun!). Even with a great professor, I find my writing limp and forced on the page, as if I'm trying too hard to impress someone. When I write for myself, I know I'm not going to show it to anybody, and it's always better and truer than what I write for workshops. It seems that way for a lot of people, though. Why do you suppose that is? Is it pressure that makes bad writing? Or does it just depend on the writer?

I also dislike writing within deadlines, unless I am not writing in an examination.
Deadlines dont let you think enough and so they put a stopper on your creativity. If you have lots of time to think you can come out with something better.
I am not a proffessionally bound writer, so I usually dont have any deadlines to follow, anyway.

Definitely with. Deadlines spark you up. I can write ten times the stuff with a deadline on my back than I can without one. Tonight I cranked out a new book proposal. I disagree that deadlines and pressure make bad writing, I think I do my best work with tight deadlines and my editor would agree. You just have to learn to kick back and get it done! Pax - C

I work better with deadlines (though I hate them) because then I actually finish the story. Other wise I just sort of lose interest.
I think the pressure of deadlines as good or bad depends on the author.

it sometimes depends.
without deadlines, i feel more free and i dont have the pressure of finishing it at a certain time,
with deadlines, it helps me to not put the story off to the side for a long time. it makes me get it done quick and good.

That's why I never used workshops.
That way, I'm under no pressure to perform. I can write however I want.
The reason behind workshops is that it is a structured environment from which the mainstream will be able to choose their future authors:
Work under pressure.
Work under a deadline.
Give them what they want. Not what you want.

With
Deadlines give me the extra impetus to sit down abd write. They make it necessary, and it's more interesting than laundry or dishes. With a deadline it becomes at least equally as necessary

i think of you're ok. Extracurriculars won't make or break your application i'm specific. The performs are good and the interest shows which you're a self-starter and are taking accountability for your self. faculties are not truly searching for a laundry record of activities and golf equipment- they had truly see which you concentration on one or 2 issues and surely commit to them truly than bouncing around from membership to membership. And in the experience that your hobbies have something to do including your significant that's an extra plus.

I have a "rush" that comes over me. I find a "deadline" an exciting thing but, for some reason, I really do well. Peace, Love and God Bless.
