Rationing began on 8 January 1940. Each person was allowed a specific mount of basic foods.
Typical examples of the amounts allowed to each person were:
Meat - between 1s. (5p) and 2s. (10p) a head a week
Bacon - 4 oz. (113 gm) to 8 oz. (227 gm) a week
Tea - 2 oz. (57 gm) to 4 oz. (113 gm) a week
Cheese — 1 oz. (28 gm) to 8 oz. (227 gm) a week
Sugar - 8 oz. (227 gm) a week.
A 12-oz. (340 gm) packet of soap powder was half a month’s ration; you could get one egg every two months and powdered egg could be bought on points. Fruit like bananas vanished altogether.

Most food was rationed but vegetables grown in Britain were available and fruit when it was in season. All imported fruit like oranges and bananas were unobtainable
Dairy food except milk was all in short supply and meat was very severely rationed.
Anything with sugar was hard to get and chocolate was scarce.
Nobody actually starved and some people think that it was the healthiest diet the British have ever eaten because it was so low in animal fat and sugar.
You never saw obese children.

A lot of rationing and a lot of preserved foods that would travel well from over seas. Britain had long imported a large share of its food and its native agriculture was hampered by lack of labor. Cut from the continent, they had to scale back on fresh meats and veggies.

Guess you got your answers for what they eat in BG.
In the east, people eat anything that crawls. Tapioca was the chief staple in Asia.
During the last months of the war, the Japanese were also resorting to cannibalism.
