If pornography is too "liberal" in the United States, what about Europe?

I am reading more and more about how our media is being saturated with sex in the U.S. and how it is harming our society. Over exposure for children can be very harmful from this.

But I used to live in Europe and sex is EVERYWHERE. They are much more liberal about sex and SEEM to still have a healthy life style. Porno can be seen on basic television late at night for any kid to see, but I never hear about porno addiction over there.

Are the statistics on porn addiction the same in Europe as it is in the US? If it is the same, then why not more so?

In Europe people grow up with a healthier attitude towards sexuality: not all Europeans, true, but a majority.

In America we have a "porn addiction" problem because kids who were deprived of a healthy view of sexuality suddenly come into contact with it, and usually they try and hide it to. If they had to view porn in private to keep their parents from finding out, they keep doing so. Eventually they become a pariah in their own circles as they withdraw to view porn.

In Europe however, men do not have to hide to view porn. Like you said, its just on TV, so like anyone else turning on the news they just turn on the TV and watch pornographic commercials. And because sexuality was embraced in a healthy manner most Europeans never feel like they have to hide porn or even that they even need it.

And would say calling it a "addiction" as people do in the US has too many connotations unrelated to it to accurately describe people who regularly view porn. There was a guy in my dorm who wanked to it once a night in his room and when his parents found out they immediately called a priest to deal with his "porn addiction." Nevermind he gets to all his classes everyday, has plenty of friends and so. Because he viewed porn at all, he was addicted.

So the words themselves do not always carry the same meaning. What one person calls an addiction could easily be just a nightly ****.

There are people I think on both sides of the pond who do take it to far though: they might be late to work or something because they were watching porn. But thats really not a whole lot different then someone being late to work for watching the end of "American Idol" or the end of a sports game.

If we can have porn addictions, I think we really need to categorize everything as having a potentially addictive level to it.

I live part-time in Hungary. I have been told it is the porno capital of the world.
I don't stay up late watching tv but my husband said there was some light porno(is there such a thing?) on the public channels.
Last week I was freaked out because at 2 in the afternoon on a beautiful day in the city park,we were sitting on a bench resting and watching the seniors playing chess across from us. Out of the blue, a tall blonde woman in a tube top and mini skirt,pulled down her top and lifted up her skirt and was crouching down with this guy taking pictures of her possing.
It was weird because only a few people were starring with their mouths open and most just went on with their business.
I know if that happened in the states, they would be in jail.

People in Europe are more affectionate than Americans. Family shows love and appreciation much more frequently. It is very different. There is more emphasis on love in Europe than in the US. But don't get me wrong porn is porn. It's definately not the expression of 2 people who love each other. It's pure lust which can get more into the area where there is lack of control and can contribute to extended problems like drug and alcohol addiction and promiscuity. Americans spend less time expressing their love for one another so there are pent up emotions they don't know how to convey in a healthy manner. That's when the problems star to occur...

seem is he keyword here. euro's are nuts, we are the redneck conservatives of the world. If you cant have it, people want it more and become addicted. If its normal to have porn on tv then people treat it as such.
