YESTERDAY
I was driving my 1987 Chevy Suburban yesterday, around the ninth block traveled, it died. I was only going 20-25 mph in my neighborhood. At the ninth block the electrical things like the radio died out then the engine shut off. The brakes lhad locked up. Fortunately I could start right away and drive it back home

TODAY, now the truck isn't working. I started it a couple times at first but it had to turnover for awhile. But once it was running it would shake and the truck shut off by itself again. I started it again, and when I gave it gas while in park the power would die and the truck would shut off. Then I tried to start again, but now it would take really long to start up, but then would die right after. And when it did it sounded like the serpentine belts were getting stuck, or something (i dont know) - something was not right.

NOW it starts up fast, but it dies right away

let me know if you are a real mechanic or just guessing so I really know what to do Thank

Your SUV needs the timing replaced it jumped timing and the timing chain is worn and has slack.

its easy to repair but the down side is that it has to go to a good repair shop. if a Family member that knows engines and like cars they can fix it in about 6 hrs on a weekend.

total cost for parts is under $120.00 Timing chain kit cost $35- $65.

20 year old truck, I would say the timing chain jumped . But loosing your electrical and being able to start it right after does not sound consistent. Nor do brakes lock up unless you hammered the brake pedal. The serpentine belt will make a squealing sound if something has seized up but that's about it. Sounds like a good idea would be to take it to a shop and have it checked out. Unless this thing is in really good shape and not to many miles it may be worth it. Could also be as simple as a fuel filter and pump,

I am not a mechanic. I have done a lot of work on my own vehicles.
At first guess it sounds like the truck is not getting gas for some reason.
However, from your question I can tell you are even less of a mechanic than I am.
Therefore, your only real choice is to take it to a real mechanic, because even if I could tell you what's wrong, what else are you going to do about it? It's nothing you can fix by yourself. Good luck.

I am a real mechanic, but I also am not there to see what it is doing. So, pop the hood, and watch the belt. If you notice a pulley that is not turning when the rest are, you may be a step closer to finding the trouble. It could be several things, based on your description, so one thing at a time. A simple thing like a locked up a/c pulley could cause this issue.

back yard mechanic here. You sound really confused about what's going on. If a car dies the brakes shouldn't lock up. Take it to a repair shop.
