I have lived in Iceland for 4 years . Most people understand English an many understand German as well. You should have no problems getting around Reykjavik.
It' a great place to visit. Check out the Blue Lagoon near Keflavik and the many beautiful waterfalls all over Iceland.
Have a good trip!!!

English and Danish are widely understood. Studying both these languages is a mandatory part of the curriculum but students can choose to learn Norwegian or Swedish instead of Danish.
If you learn Icelandic, good luck! It is a toungue-twister for English speakers to learn. Plus, there are sounds that are not in the English language, i.e., "Þ".
