Probably because you're kind of giving back to the community! When you lose points by asking a question, other people earn points by answering ur question, and u get a few points back by picking someone's best answer to your question!!
PLUS, u get ur question answered!! Which is an added bonus!!

I kind of wonder the same thing. If someone posts a really good question,they should be given points instead of losing them.If someone posts a stupid question they should lose some points too.
